I have to say that your hospitality post is a favorite of mine too. It's been very much on my heart about the lack of teaching or encouraging of this in our churches,etc... I've had so many people comment on our gift of hospitality in our home. Certainly not gift of hostessing, =) , but having people in our home. It is listed as a gift in scripture, and of course, then it should be used generously. But, everyone is told in scripture to practice hospitality (Romans 12:13, even to strangers. That includes even giving a cup of water. Anyway... I had a much harder time with overnight guests, especially since our home is not large and no extra beds or hide a bed couch,no privacy, small bedrooms, etc... I had a list of why it was difficult to offer overnight accommodations. But a dear friend of mine, an older and much wiser woman than me said "if you have room in your heart, you'll have room in your home". The willingness hasn't happened over night, but I now have my younger 47yr. old brother living with us (he was recently diagnosed with MS and can't work and is single), and my nephew who moved in right before Christmas because he needs a new lease on life. We have made tiny rooms for them in our basement, furnished with furniture that was offered to us ... some without knowing our need. I don't know how long they'll be with us, but I do know that God had it planned out for us to do long before we knew it would be happening, and has provided for us and them in wonderful ways. Yes, it's tight, and inconvenient, but we are enjoying wonderful times of togetherness and encouragement.
It doesn't usually mean longterm like these men are for the time being, but usually it's a night, a weekend, etc.... It's still hard for many people to invite people into their homes, whether it's for a cup of coffee, a meal, an afternoon or evening of fellowship. But whatever the time, you can't out give the Lord, and He blesses abundantly when you are following His leading.
I'm thankful that He gave us a home that has "just enough" room for whomever He brings into our life to encourage.

ha ha ha!! I made your blog list of encouragers!! YAY!
But I can't help myself - YOU encourage ME - and I saw that in you the first time I met you at the Springs - I KNEW that God was going to continue to use you mightily all thru your life as long as you also desired that same thing. And you've done that - and continue to do that. And it's interesting to me to see how SO many parts of your life mirror parts of mine .
SO ....as long as I can continue to bless and/or encourage you, I will do so. I also pass much of what you say along to my junior high class....so the ripples continue to spread throughout NO. Calif.
Love you, Beth!
